About FranklynAmps

Franklyn is a passionate perfectionist when it comes to building amplifiers, from the custom turret/eyelet boards to the choice of components to the cabinets to the tweed covering the cabinets, time and care is taken to produce the best possible product.

Franklyn has been working on Electronics since 1983, first working in the Air Force on tube amplifiers as they transitioned to solid state, to main frame computers and state of the art aircraft avionics.  Following the Air Force in 2011 he went to work for Motorola dealers maintaining 911 radio and telephone systems as well as radio repair.  It was during this time the first amp was created, a single ended EL84 5 watt circuit, shortly after came the first tweed Deluxe.

The goal of FranklynAmps is to create a quality reproduction of the tone of the 50’s/60’s with no compromise at a price “real” musicians can afford.  While most boutique builders target musicians with bottomless pockets, FranklynAmps believes everyone deserves incredible tone regardless of income.

Most amps include ClassicTone transformers, Belton tube sockets, SoZo tone capacitors, F&T, Kendrick or Sprague filter capacitors, Alpha pots, Switchcraft jacks and plugs.

Cabinets are built using void free pine, knots in wood can work loose over time and/or start showing through on Tolex/Tweed finishes so care is taken to use Knot free Pine.  They are constructed using full dovetail joints to avoid ever shaking loose. Speaker baffles and backs are constructed using ½ inch Birch or Maple plywood. Each amp is built one at a time, using custom turret/eyelet boards of either 2mm or 3mm thick FR4 in a Chrome plated steel chassis.  Each amp is tested and burned in Custom builds are welcome as well as preorders for amps that are hard to keep in stock.
