I visited the shop in person and left with a deluxe 5e3. It is by far the best sounding amp I’ve ever played for several reasons. First, the tone is just perfect in every way. The feel of the amp is super responsive. With the 5e3 circuit, the amp becomes extremely versatile for anything except heavy metal. Lastly, the amp takes pedals extremely well even without using the negative feedback switch but even more with the other two settings. The response and harmonics are perfect and the tone just sounds vintage but high fidelity. I’ve owned Two Rock, Fender CS, Mesa, Tone King. I currently have a $4600 Amplified Nation Dumble Clone and this amp sounds better and is completely better for me . This circuit is also way more forgiving than a dumble but still has that compression and singing sustain. I ended up getting his Champ second hand and was blown away. Just superb. I’m currently selling my AN amp to get a Franklyn Tremeloux. How does Franklyn compare to other tweed builders? Well the void free cab, the dovetail joints alone are better than anything else you can get and make these amps reverberate amazingly. The components and hand wiring are just as good as any other and far superior than most. His pricing is also half of what other builders are wanting for lesser products. Highly recommend Franklyn. I’ll own 4 of them before I’m done and can’t imagine ever needing anything else.

Love my Vibrolux from Franklyn amps. The build quality is off the chart and having owned another Tweed amp the difference was clearly evident. Cabinet, finish, components, tightness of everything and it’s dead quiet. Franklyn is a very quick communicator and builds a great amp at a very fair price. Mr Wilson made me one of his Tweed Princetons with a 10 in speaker. It was shipped quickly with excellent packaging. The pictures on his website don't do them justice. It was a beautiful hand made amp from the wireing to the cabinet. The tone will make you not want to stop playing. Will be doing business again.

it must be a sign,my name -his name. I got the 5E3 Deluxe WOW!!! 3 mods,cuts like BUTTER! nice with pedals or without. I called franklyn up & talked awhile about the 5E3 Deluxe & everything else he does.he hand builds the cabinets, wraps the tweed clothe,wires the chassis,& anything else that needs done,by him self! What company does that today!I like him,Franklyn-we will be doing business again besides Ilike that tweed Vibrolux your doing! franklin mccracken.

Highly recommend Franklyn Amps, this guy knows how to make and take care of the customer, if anything isn’t right he will take care of it! ! I have bought 3 of his amps over the last year and had a small problem with a Princeton that I bought for my son, sent it back and when I got it back I didn’t want to give it back to my son, it sounded so awesome ! I am really thankful for him and am seriously getting another Princeton Amp from Franklyn, my son now is a happy man playing that Princeton. !!!

My Franklyn Vibrolux 5f11 delivers the goods in a serious way! The ordering process was easy, the packing job was other level and ensured the safe transit of a special amp. First off, I was struck by the gorgeous amber tweed covering. Photos don’t do it justice. Upon inspection, the pine cabinet struck me as super clean, and highly resonant. It sounds truly musical. After a weird trem issue everything is running perfectly. Franklyn was extremely available and helpful in addressing the issue, which went away on its own after a couple of days. The tone is absolutely killer. It’s a deep, warm, present sound. The open back cabinet gives a very atmospheric, almost 3D effect. It loves my Tele and Harmony Rocket with Gold Foil and P-90 equally well. Humbuckers make it bark just a touch harder. The tremolo had my band mates speechless. Slow and swampy or fast and intense. I couldn’t be happier with the tone, the buying experience (including the PRICE!)or the cosmetics. If vintage tone and aesthetics are your thing, Franklyn Amps are sure to satisfy your need for tweed!

I ordered a 5F11 Tremolux from Franklyn Amps.Build quality and attention to detail very impressive.Especially his cabs. Great craftsmanship and built a like a rock.I loaded this amp with a 12 inch Celestion Blue and was blown away. This speaker was the perfect match for this Tremolux. Sounds incredible and could not be more pleased with this combo.Had all quality components including Jupiter caps and Electrolytics and the only thing I asked for was the quiet metal film resistors he was happy to do. Thanks for a quality sound monster at an affordable price and Franklyn was a pleasure to engage with. Let me add one more comment.His cabinets are made with 1/2 back panel’s and handmade by him and are cosmetically beautiful with just the perfect tint of lacquer. You would be hard pressed to find a better Tweed Era Amp build at this price anywhere.The amp is quiet as a mouse and roars with tone.I’m amazed how a 10-12 watt amp sounds like a 50 watt with the Celestion Blue. The perfect grab and go Gig amp.

I’d like to offer my review of my Franklyn 5e3 amp head w/8” Weber optioned speaker, also the 1-12 cabinet that I ordered after ordering the head.

Firstly communications couldn’t be more genuine, personable and quick. My own personal experiences were listened to and I feel appreciated as the appreciation of 5e3’s were discussed.
I’m blessed to have owned many amps, I’ve found myself a fan of Fender Tweed. I’ve a 57 Custom Champ (amongst a lot of other amps) and 3 Fender 57 Deluxe heads, I liked the model so much I kept coming back. Then I found that after looking for such a long time and having no luck, dare say I could venture from Fender to Franklyn?! I Am Glad I Did!
Installing my Ted Weber 12A125H gave me an opportunity to inspect the Tweed covering the cab. Very very nice! So nice that I have to admit after buttoning up the beautiful tweed cab that I removed the back cover of the head to give it a look see. Very Very neat, extremely tidy. I’d say to the OCD level which in some cases is great, which this is one. I still own my 5f1 Fender Champ and the 5e3 Franklyn head as far as wiring and upholstery is, in my opinion the same if not better. A twisted pair here, a twisted pair there, it all adds up, every detail individually seems so small but when everything is seen together, it’s Art.
The tonal qualities of the Franklyn’s 5e3 circuit should be the most important detail, but I’m a bit OCD myself and I dig straight grill cloth, I love beautiful tweed and awesome looking wiring jobs, but isn’t the sound why I’m buying?
If I’d have first bought a Franklyn 5e3 I’d have probably never bought a Fender. I dig the stock 5e3, the feedback off setting, then the JTM negative feedback mod. Three completely distinct, unique in tonal characteristics. You can jumper channels of course, just like you should, you can run just the 8” speaker which in my opinion blasts the heck out of the Champ’s 8” speaker in a side by side comparison, but you can also bypass the 8” and run your external cab OR you can run the 8” with your external cab!
I’ve had a lot of tweed. Hot Rod Deluxe, Blues Jr, 57 Champ, 410 DeVille, 57 Deluxe heads (5e3) in Tolex I’ve had numerous amps too, Tweed have generally different speaker options than Tolex. Eventually I bought cabs and started playing different amps through the same cab. This is where my appreciation of the 5e3 grew and grew. As I said, intertwining in all my amps were 3 different purchases of the Fender 57 Custom Deluxe Head, produced 2014-2016(?) hard to find but I did it…

Another fantastic Franklyn Amps build, this time a Proluxe-style amp. Plenty of sustain, quiet as a mouse, really sounds top notch. I always say that these amps are the best builds I’ve come across—Franklyn is just easy to work with and builds absolute quality amps that we musicians can afford! So happy…again!

Review of Franklyn amp, 5e3 head with 8" speaker.
I've got nothing but good things to say about this amp. I just plug straight in and it sings so nice. Then I tried "jumping" the two channels and wow, so many combinations of tone it'll make you take great notice. I can set both on 12 and just back off guitar volume for a clean sound, or crank it for the sweetest break up. It also works well when set on low volume settings, but when you dig in, it still gives a nice growl. I've got several hand wired fenders, an early boogie mark one, a real nice 48 Gibson, and a nice monkey ward, but my new Franklyn just out does all. I haven't mentioned the 3 way switch that gives it three more tones, no negative od, stock, and marshall esc. Sounds. No stomp boxes are needed for this amp, although I'm sure they'd be fine if ya can't live w/o em. Very nice man to deal with, prompt shipping, and timely build. Frankly even helped me with parts to mod my ec vibro champ with the neg feed back switch. Great doing bidnez whith this guy, and I hope to do more in the future.

This is one of the best builds I have ever seen—just an absolutely fantastic amp. I received it today and played it for 4 hours getting familiar with it. Have a run of shows this fall and cannot wait to play it tomorrow at a festival. Having played and owned so many amps from all of the great companies and builders, I’m 100% overly impressed with Franklyn Amps—doesn’t always happen that way, but this amp is just beautiful! Grateful that I came across Franklyn Amps! Can’t say enough!

Awesome amp! Love the tone! Quality build. Just beautiful craftsmanship. I couldn't be happier. The best part of this whole transaction was Franklyn himself, though. He patiently answered all my questions about which amp would really fill my needs. He's really there for his customers. If someone out there is reading this and deciding if you should buy from Franklyn, just do it. The amps and the man are the real deal.

I love this AMP! I have had my new 57 Tweed Deluxe for just a few days and I can't leave it alone. I can't believe the sounds I get with this little amp. My wife even likes it! Beautiful Amp. I'm already thinking about the Tweed Champ. Great Job!

FranklynAmps Bassman Head and 4x10 cab

I am the proud owner of the 5F6A Bassman 2x8 head/4x10 cab. Since the video of the head was shot, the speakers have been replaced with G8C's... They're a serious upgrade and we should have installed them from the get-go. The cabinet is loaded with 10" Veterans. The head has a push-pull master volume pot to bring the 40w amp down to practice amp levels. FA's negative feedback switch is also installed, bringing a JTM-ish vibe into play. I'd been dreaming of this amp for years when I saw FA's Deluxe practice amp head, and will always be glad I asked them to build this amp, and grateful they accepted the request!  

Obviously, the sound of the amp at full rip is glorious.. More impressively, the practice amp is not just usable, it's quite enjoyable - especially now that I'm tucked away in my home office, my daughter is in her home school room, and my wife is in her office... This arrangement is not 40w compatible! The variable inputs of the 5F6A and the neg feedback switch are infinitely adaptable, and create the perfect interface for mating either my tele or LP to the 2x8 at low volume - no pedals required.. I am an amp guy, and I love, love, love this amp. Love it.

I recently purchased a custom rig from Franklyn Amps. It started with a modified 5F2A Princeton, adding a 6G15 reverb unit, and finally a 15 inch extension speaker. The amp's modification allows power tube substitutions that include a single ended 6V6, 6L6, and KT66. With a low power class A amplifier, tube changes produce significant alterations in the overall tonal palette. The workmanship is outstanding. The aesthetics of the matching pine cabinets included a hand rubbed finish. The electrical components were carefully selected and we discussed upgrades along the way. When the project all came together I became the proud owner of a 5 watt Franklyn Stack. Tone, tone, and more tone!
